Popular JIRA/Confluence Add-Ons

Popular JIRA/Confluence Add-Ons

Atlassian provides a platform for extending their software products called the Atlassian Marketplace. Here you can find thousands of add-ons which increase the functionality of each application.

We had a look through the most popular JIRA and Confluence add-ons that are listed on the Atlassian Marketplace and shortlisted some recommendations of our own:

JIRA

Tempo Timesheets

“Painless time tracking, flexible reporting, and account management for JIRA”

Timesheets extends JIRA’s time tracking features, adding worklog calendars, timesheets as well as a mobile app. Reports can be generated for tasks, teams and projects using the time tracking functionality.

Tempo Planner

“Tempo Planner offers visualized resource management for team and project planning seamlessly in JIRA”

Planner can be used to manage resources across teams and projects based on fields such as capacity, utilization and team member specialities - all of which lead to cost savings! It features an easy to use drag-and-drop interface, and the effects of changes in scope/schedule/team can be easily seen.

We use both Tempo add-ons here at New Verve to plan timesheets and tasks for each team member.

Both are available for Server, Cloud and Data Center installations of JIRA, and integrate with Confluence as macros which can be inserted into pages. Another post on Confluence macros coming soon!

Pricing for Timesheets and Planner starts at $10 for 10 users, per add-on - $10 monthly for Cloud installations.

Zephyr for JIRA

“All your testing, inside JIRA. Zephyr for JIRA augments JIRA capabilities with cost-effective and sophisticated test management”

Zephyr provides fully featured test management from within JIRA - allowing you to monitor software quality as a project progresses. Tests can be created, scheduled and executed from the added Tests JIRA panel. Reports can be generated from test results, and defects can be linked to issues within JIRA.

Available for both JIRA Server and Cloud. Zephyr pricing starts at $10 for a 10 user license for Server, or $10/month for a 10 user Cloud license.

Capture

“A visual feedback and testing tool for all teams”

One of Atlassian’s own plugins that are sold through the Marketplace, Capture allows for the creation of collaborative testing sessions and walkthroughs which can be annotated and shared amongst users.

Available for both JIRA Server and Cloud, pricing for Capture starts at $10 for 10 users, or $10/month for Cloud.

BigPicture

“Project Portfolio Management (PPM) with agile practices at enterprise scale”

BigPicture groups JIRA tasks and projects into Programs and provides different views of each Program.

Programs can be used to generate Gantt charts, timelines, manage multiple Agile Boards at once, assign tasks to users through the Resources view, evaluate risks using the Risk Matrix Tool.

This addon also allows for exporting your Programs to external tools such as Microsoft Project.

BigPicture is only available for JIRA Server. Pricing starts at $20 for 10 users.

Confluence

Questions for Confluence

“Share knowledge and find answers with internal Q&A”

Another of Atlassian’s own add-ons, Questions provides a forum-like interface where users can ask, search and answer questions. Questions allows for collaboration in answers, and lets users vote for the answer they think is the best.

Available for both Confluence Cloud and Server. Pricing starts at $10 for 10 users, or $10/month for Cloud installations.

Gliffy

“Diagrams Made Easy – Gliffy for Confluence Improves Your Team’s Ability to Communicate and Collaborate”

Gliffy provides the ability to create flowcharts, wireframes, UML, Network, Org Charts and many more diagrams through an easy to use drag-and-drop interface. Diagrams can then be inserted directly into Pages and shared with other users.

Gliffy also allows for collaboration in diagram creation, and importing directly from Microsoft Visio.

Available for both Confluence Cloud and Server. Pricing starts at $10 for 10 users, or $10/month for Cloud installations.

Draw.io Diagrams

“Powerful, easy to use and secure diagramming”

Another popular diagramming tool, Draw.io is the #1 rated Confluence addon, providing a fairly priced way to create and view diagrams from within Confluence. Draw.io also provides timely support from their core development team - if you have any issues you can speak to someone with a full understanding of the system.

Available for both Confluence Cloud and Server. Draw.io is available for free on Confluence Cloud, pricing on Server installation starts at $10 for 10 users.

Cross Platform

Scriptrunner

“ScriptRunner is a collection of powerful but easy-to-use workflow functions, JQL functions, listeners and services”

Scriptrunner adds the ability to automate actions by using the Groovy programming language which runs on the Java platform. Using ScriptRunner, you can create your own custom scripts to interact with the application API, including listeners which can be set up to react to events.

Because of its nature, ScriptRunner is only available on Server installations of Atlassian applications. It is available for JIRA, Confluence and Bitbucket servers.

Pricing for Scriptrunner starts at $10 for 10 users, on a per application basis.
