Atlassian Partner Day 2016 - Barcelona

Atlassian Partner Day 2016 - Barcelona

Highlights from our recent visit to Barcelona with Atlassian

Having recently become an official global Atlassian® Expert partner, we attended our very first Atlassian® event in Barcelona last week.

As well as getting the chance to visit an incredibly beautiful city (and a lot sunnier than Glasgow!), we gained some really useful insights from Atlassian® and a wide array of other companies that form part of the Expert community.

Expert Partners Day was first on our agenda (May 23, 2016). This partner event was arranged by Atlassian® as a means to support and encourage companies that sell Atlassian® products and services in local markets. We attended various internal sessions that spanned three main focus areas: sales enablement, business, and technical. Each of these offered useful advice to us on how to best represent Atlassian® here in Scotland.

AtlasCamp 2016 was next on our agenda, spanning two days (May 24 - May 25, 2016). Advertised as Atlassian’s premier developer conference, it was a one of a kind opportunity for over 500 developers and Marketplace vendors to enhance their skills, network with other developers in the community, and as Atlassian® say on their website, to have an awesome time in Barcelona!

Atlassian’s new CTO Sri Viswanath gave the keynote at AtlasCamp 2016 and announced some exciting product advancements to support and fuel growth. Following the theme from Expert Partners Day, it is clear that Atlassian® Cloud is growing and Atlassian® is focused on delivering ongoing improvements to this service.

Bitbucket Pipelines

The first big announcement was the launch of Bitbucket Pipelines. Built directly into Bitbucket® Cloud, this new service enables developers to build and deploy code on every push to their repository. Unlike with Atlassian Bamboo® and other tools, developers can now manage their entire development workflow directly within Bitbucket®.

Finally - a Mobile App for JIRA and Confluence!

The next announcement, which I know will benefit many of our customers, is that of a dedicated iOS app for JIRA and Confluence for Atlassian® Cloud. Although no date has yet been confirmed for an Android version, it looks like it will be coming soon. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more!

Service Desk Connect API

JIRA Service DeskTM is the fastest growing product in Atlassian’s history. It’s no surprise that the tool is being improved continually and it is now possible to extend it by using JIRA Service DeskTM Connect.

With this new API, developers can now build add-ons that add exciting features directly within the UI and back-end workflows. A great example demoed by Atlassian was the creation of requests based on incoming voice calls. This was feasible by hooking up a telephony system with JIRA Service DeskTM, via the REST API.

A Selfie - Nigel & Kris

And we can’t resist in finishing off with a selfie! This was taken from the W Hotel in Barcelona where the events were hosted - an incredible venue right on the beach. Admittedly, it was a tough ask to stay in business-mode and not wander down for a day by the sea.
